I know where you're coming from. I haven't gone back and thought about King's Cross yet (in context of "to live one must die"). The aspects of blood and (what can I say without giving too much away) choice.
I'm more generous I think - if in fact she had the 7 book arc since (near) the beginning, I doubt she didn't know what to do. But like the action scenes, you have a slow, light narrative that suddenly gets very dense and philosophical, which (for me) is hard to follow at the same pace. When the plot depends on it, it's rather like a "Memento" that you need to go back to again to see if it hangs together.
What confuses me (on first read) is the motives of Dumbledore in what he said to many people, given what happens in and after King's Cross. I suspect it does hang together, but it is not immediately obvious to me.
Friend coming over who is in the 5xx pages, so resuming radio silence for a while.
Oh and one more thing. I love the ... ugh code is tough ... recontextualization of motives that unfurls towards the end. I found myself with Harry in his thoughts, and unsure of whose value system Rowling was glorifying. I thought it was rather elegantly done.
